Orange online community questions and responses - March 2006
April 08, 2006 [General] | By anonymous 1.

We haven't seen such thing before: a wireless carrier asking editors and writers for online publications to ask questions about Orange's products and services and then sending responses promptly! But Orange did it! Here are the questions from online community and answers from Orange:

Q. Why is the specification for the SPV M600 incorrect on the Orange website?

A. Sorry, this has now been corrected.

Q. Will the SPV M600 become available for non business customers?

A. The SPV is already available to non business customers.

Q: Why have Orange removed MSN from the SPV M600?

A. All future SPV products will not include MSN. Orange is developing it’s own IM solution and I look forward to giving you further information on this soon.

Q. Will Orange launch an MMS data plan with regards to Memova Push Mail?

A. Yes Orange is developing a monthly charge to use with this product that will allow them to receive a bundle of messages per month.

Q. Will Orange be launching a flat data tariff similar to other network providers?

A. Orange Business has recently launched some new data tariffs to support MS Mobile email for as little as £6.50 a month.

Q. Will Orange launch the HTC Star-Trek?

A. We cannot comment on this at this stage.

Q. Will Orange start to work with new manufacturers like E-TEN, GIGABYTE and Mitac/Mio?

A. Orange constantly strives to review our product portfolio and technology partners where it adds customer benefit. At the recent 3GSM Orange announced a new partnership with Chinese manufacturer Amoi to develop and produce new handsets for our global footprint.

Q. At present there is no 3G roaming in Germany, when will this change?

A. You can currently use 3G data services roaming in Germany on DeTe Mobil. Video telephony roaming in Germany will become available at a later date.

Q. Will Orange release A2DP ROM upgrades for Windows Mobile 5 devices?

A. Yes Orange will support the A2DP upgrade, however we cannot give you a release date at this time.

Q. Does Orange plan to replace the Orange Backup product that was previously supplied on a number of devices?

A. Yes Orange intends to implement a replacement backup synchronization open solution but cannot comment on a launch date at this time.

Q. Will Orange be carrying any of the following devices: E60, E61, E70, N80, N71, N91, 3250?

A. As we roll out new products for our European footprint, customer communication plans are developed. We are able to discuss these prior to launch. Some of these models have already launched on Orange.

Q. When will Homescreen version 2 start being used?

A. Orange will deploy Homescreen 2 but cannot comment on dates at this stage.

Q. Will you be able to switch the Homescreen 2 off?

A. Yes

Q. On S60 devices will Active Idle be available?

A. Yes

Q. Will there be an update to Homescreen 2 for current devices?

A. No

Q. When can we expect to see more information about Orange’s role as a Symbian signed self certifier and how will Orange make this process available to developers?

A. Orange has the ability to self sign Symbian applications under the Symbian signed scheme, for applications that are written and tested by orange. In addition, Premium members of Orange Partner can submit applications to Orange for Symbian signing at a discounted rate.

Q. Can we expect to see any changes in roaming data charges?

A. As you may know the EU announced its plans to regulate roaming charges in a press conference on 28th March and is now in a period of consultation. Depending on the outcome of this, roaming charges may be effected. We are always reviewing our costs to ensure we meet customer needs and offer a high quality service to customers when they are travelling abroad.

Q. What was the rationale behind using animals to describe the new tariff plans and why has pricing increased?

A. The new names have been given to simplify our reduced number of tariffs which are now based around customer behavior instead of talk time and minutes which increases the value to customers.

Q. When can we expect an announcement on UMA?

A. Orange plans to communicate on our UMA strategy in the near future.
