Preview of The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile version 2.5 alpha is now available April 11, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. It adds sync over Bluetooth support for Mac users and their Windows Mobile 5 devices. If you own a Mac computer, then you can use this Missing Sync to synchronize your Mac and your Windows Mobile 5.0 device. Q: When will The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile support devices running WM5? A: The currently shipping v2.0 edition of The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile does not support syncing with devices running Windows Mobile 5. However, Mark/Space is currently in the final stages of development on its WM5-savvy release, v2.5. Though we don't have a planned release date at this time, we are hopeful that it won't be too much longer. If you already own The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, Mark/Space has made an early alpha build of the upcoming 2.5 version available. If you are interested in trying out this alpha release, back up your data and visit our testing page for details. (If you don't own version 2.0 but can't wait to try out the 2.5 alpha, you may also purchase the current 2.0 release and later receive a free upgrade to the v2.5 release with support for devices running WM5.) ... Q: What makes WM5 different so that support must be added separately? A: Microsoft made several security-related improvements to WM5, including changes to how devices make a connection with desktop and notebook PCs. Unfortunately, the method by which The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile connects to Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003 devices no longer exists on WM5 devices. Thus, it requires a significant amount of software development before The Missing Sync can establish a connection with devices running WM5.
