American press review: Handheld COMPUTING magazine May 2006
April 16, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.
For many people still paper magazines are more convincing than online publications. Furthermore sometimes magazines not specialized in any platform, but covering all platforms, are much more objective... So let's take a look at what American platform-independent press is writing about Windows Mobile phones these days?!
Handheld COMPUTING magazine in May 2006 issue covers the Windows Mobile phones in the following articles:
- "Treo 700w" article (see image above) - pages 18-22 - about Treo 700w and how it compares to Palm OS powered Treo, a quote:
Palm picked an already hugely popular product as the basis for its first Windows Mobile device and then added its special sauce in the form of some much appreciated software touches where they matter most. For now the 700w is Verizon only, but Palm will eventually add other carriers towards the end of 2006, and GSM versions are considered also.
- "Sprint PPC-6700" article - page 16, a quote:
I liked the 6700's form factor. It is good compromise between cell phone and Pocket PC, and the device fits in yor hand comfortably.
- "i-mate Smartphone roundup" article - pages 68-69, about SP5 Smartphone, SP5m Smartphone, i-mate JASJAR, i-mate K-JAM, i-mate PDA-N (the only non-phone) and about i-mate JAMMIN; a quote:
a Smartphone, a regular Pocket PC, or a Pocket PC Phone Edition? There is one company that covers the entire field.
- "As good as it gets?" article - page 52, about Motorola i930 smartphone (powered by Windows Mobile 2003 Smartphone Edition), a quote:
The unsightly, cumbersome external antenna, the slow 180 MHz processor, Windows Mobile 2003 instead of WM5, a cradle that will not charge an extra battery, and the lack of Bluetooth that eliminates the possbility of GPS, a BT external keyboard, and a wireless headset.
