Windows Mobile Treo 700w slashed by a fool, The Motley Fool April 30, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. "The Motley Fool" is one of the most respected publications about US stock market - it is even asked for opinion by CNBC. Now one of its editors is critizing severely Windows Mobile Treo and we think, that while part of the blame is at the hardware manufacturer (HTC: using 300 MHz processor for CDMA EVDO device was not a bright idea), part of the blame is at Microsoft (users=testers, Microsoft employees=collectors of MSFT stock options): I've had my Treo for several months now, and while I'm by no means a power user, I like my gadgets to work as advertised. But, as is typical for a Windows-powered device, it's buggy as all get out. When connected to the Internet through Verizon Wireless Broadband Access, the system will bog down or freeze; sometimes the Treo just won't start up. In both cases, you need to remove the battery to get it to reboot. That nifty touchscreen is a real boon, too -- except when you use the phone as a phone and it touches your ear. That causes it to set alarms, change time zones, and unintentionally bring up all sorts of programs. To learn more click here. The next Windows Mobile Treo will be supporting totally different radio interface - UMTS/GSM instead of CDMA EVDO and if the same probelms will surface also with this new Treo, then either Palm should change hardware manufacturer/designer or Microsoft should do more testing.
