Another review of Mitac Mio A701 Pocket PC phone with built-in GPS April 30, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Apart from E-TEN G500, Mitac Mio A701 is one of few Pocket PC phones with built-in GPS. Here comes very detailed review of this phone, that however lacks any original photos (it looks like The Register can't afford digital camera yet)... In a good old tradition of Microsoft bashing The Register is slashing the Mio A701 however: The Mio A701 disappointed me. I had high hopes that this was going to be a well integrated smart phone satnav solution, but it has too many little flaws. It's by no means unusable, but it needs to be tweaked quite a bit before I'd consider buying one. As the Mio A701 is sold SIM-free it's not going cheap, so expect to pay around £370 without the MioMap software and about £440 with the software included. You might be able to find it for less from some companies that offer it at a discount if you take out an airtime contract, but it will still cost you larger part of £200. Conclusion: for some people built-in GPS is vital and gives certainty that your GPS will always work and the problems with separate charging and Bluetooth pairing are gone! Anyway: if somebody would not be satisfied with Mio A701 then there are different GPS phones powered by Windows Mobile: already available E-TEN G500 and HP iPAq phones or coming soon: Fujitsu-Siemens Loox series.
