HTC Muse to be released earlier than expected May 02, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. The Pocket PC phone with 4GB internal memory (not counting memory on external memory cards) equipped with support for UMTS and HSDPA (!) will apparently be released earlier than expected: HTC to begin shipping its model, codenamed Muse, to Qtek (Model S300) in the third quarter, according to market sources. To lear more click here. Commentary: it looks like HTC's own brands Qtek and Dopod will be getting latest models earlier than wireless carriers and than i-mate. Clearly HSDPA is becoming important differentiator because UMTS is already outdated: UMTS has only 384 kbps transfer speed compared to over 1 megabit/second in CDMA EVDO. Unfortunately HTC still doesn't get it what is needed to satisfy customers and also in latest models is releasing cheap low-quality cameras, while Nokia uses high-quality lenses branded by German high-quality manufacturer. While the build quality of HTC phones seems satisfactory already, lagging behind with 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) and low quality digital cameras are putting people off. Anyway: HTC Muse is an interesting phone and the 4GB memory will be realized in silicon and not as hard disk - what is a positive sign.
