Handango scores big job from Microsoft
May 10, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.

It looks like Handango managed to beat Motricity (that is main competition to Handango and runs Windows Mobile software shops at PocketGear.com and Smartphone.net) and scores big job from Microsoft.

Since already for years Microsoft was selling voice command for Windows Mobile through Handango shop, this announcement is not coming as surprise. However Handango has a record of unfair behavior: ripping off developers by taking unjustifiably high provisions (developers only get 50-60% of what customers pay for software sold through Handango), inability to prevent stealing software, home screens and themes by selling stolen titles on Handango and unfair software positioning in "top 10" and "top 100" lists (where more expensive software is on top because Handango can earn more from expensive software than from cheap - so software is positioned by total sales and not by number of programs sold - imagine cheap Mercedes being called the most popular car although in fact some cheaper cars are more sold and thus in reality more popular). Let us not forget that main revenue source for Handango is not selling software to end customers, but organizing shops for wireless carriers and handset manufacturers. No wonder therefore that Handango still (after so many years of operation) is not offering wireless catalog of software, where users of Windows Mobile could find and download directly to their devices all types of software - Handango still offers only very limited number of applications in their mobile version.

Ironically enough the mobile software shops and platforms offered by Handango are powered by Java and not by Microsoft's technologies like ASP .NET - another example how short sighted Microsoft employees are.

Please note, that many (most) other news sources are in business relationship with Handango - usually through affiliate software selling - and therefore only we reveal machinations of Handango to the full extend!

More information from Handango about the deal with Microsoft follows below.
