Another year, another Best Software Awards organized by Pocket PC Magazine May 23, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Our statements are not purely ignorant in this case, because we have actually recorded 2 hour long interview with owner of Pocket PC Magazine but since we are truly impartial we can keep it real and tell you how it is... This year Best Software Awards 2006 contest organized by Pocket PC Magazine provides, as each year, means of reciprocal benefiting for judges, so that they will post links and provide free publicity to Pocket PC Magazine (thus violating impartiality of whole contest) and in return Pocket PC Magazine will put their website on their "best websites" page (it is not very professional that we are not listed there!) and give them honour of being a "judge"... but this year, additionally, Pocket PC Magazine is blatantly making money off of judges comments, what further violates impartiality: Is there an entry fee for nominees? Traditionally, contests such as these charge a substantial fee, since the publicity the contest generates benefits each nominee. Smartphone & Pocket PC has never charged for participation in these awards. This year, in order to defray substantial administrative costs, Smartphone & Pocket PC requests a voluntary $100 entry fee for each nominated product sold commercially. The modest fee will be greatly appreciated and allow Smartphone & Pocket PC to continue the awards in the future. As a thank you for vendors providing the entrance fee, any comments from the judges concerning a vendor’s product will be forwarded to participating vendors. After the judging, non-participating vendors may request these comments for $250 per product. Read more here.
