A free utility for Windows XP released: G-Spot XP (Beta) - easier way to take screen shots of MS Smartphone !
May 30, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

This is a program for Windows XP, not for MS Smartphone, but it makes taking screen shots of MS Smartphone much easier - also screen shots of programs such like games, where usual screen shot taking utilities (that run inside of MS Smartphone) don't work...

G-Spot XP is a desktop screen capture utility. Taking Smartphone screenshots is made possible with the help of Remote Display Control. Screengrabs are automatically saved as JPG files. I wrote this utility to take advantage of the free tool included on the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys package; the Active Remote Display Control.

This This is still in beta. Suggestions will be much appreciated.

...

    To use G-Spot XP:

1. Download then install required files:

Remote Display Control(freeware) (scroll down the page then download “WindowsMobilePowerToys.msi”. File = 1.2 Mb)
G-Spot XP (Beta) (Remote Display Control-friendly version) -

  ...

For first-time users, run Active Sync Remote Display first. There is a shortcut on your PC’s Start Menu, a white icon. You will be prompted to run files on the phone (cerdisp2.exe and KillProc.exe). Allow them to be installed and launched. Exit Remote Display window after a successful test run.

  2. To run G-Spot, click on the Start Menu icon (Camera icon) then the UI launcher opens. Choose the resolution of the device you wished captured.

  3. As you can see from the screenshot, it does not have a decent GUI yet. I’ll be working on a GUI if this beta testing turns out to be successful. The left-most icon is used to launch Remote Display Control.

    4. Once launched, use the camera button to take screenshots. The other buttons are for Info and Exit (respectively). Screenshots are dumped to “C:\Program Files\G-Spot\Screenshots Here”. Image files are saved based on date and time (up to the second). Remote Display Controller menus (ei File, Zoom, Tools and Help) will NOT be captured.

Known issues:

- ActiveSync Remote Display Control works fine on SP2002, SP2003, WM2003SE OS. From forum posts, I think it is not compatible with WM5 device. So don’t expect the default G-Spot files to work with a WM5 device. You can still use G-Spot though. That is, in tandem with SOTI’s Pocket Controller Professional (a commercialware).

- RDC icon gets lined up on the Smartphone iconbar when re-laucnhing Active Sync Remote Display Control program. Closing ‘cerdisp.exe’ with a task manager leaves a white icon. For aesthetics, you may just edit the jpegs.

Please note that due to the fact that author of this freeware has run out of bandwidth on his server, we place this utility on our server here - we also checked it thoroughly with anti-virus and anti-malware software that this EXE file is not infected!
