Google Calendar synchronization with Windows Mobile phones : CompanionLink for Google Calendar released
May 30, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.

While Microsoft employees and Microsoft fanboys still live in a dreamworld where Microsoft products are the best in each category and area, the reality is that Google Calendar is the best thing since sliced bread and it has already become de-facto standard for private users - while in enterprise environments still Microsoft Exchange Server has the leading market share. Since most Windows Mobile phones are used by private users it has become nowadays utterly important to enable synchronization between Windows Mobile and Google Calendar. Lack of this synchronization ability could force people to switch to other platforms than Windows Mobile... so situation is deadly serious!

This CompanionLink software is not a program for Windows Mobile, but just an add-on to Microsoft Outlook (that by the way is included - on CD-ROM - with every Windows Mobile phone) that makes it possible to synchronize (via PC with Outlook) the Google Calendar with Windows Mobile phones! Unfortunately there is no solution yet that would do such synchronization directly from Windows Mobile phone, without usage of PC as intermediary - but we assume that such application will be created sooner or later: the demand for such application is huge. More information about CompanionLink follows.

CompanionLink for Google Calendar is a two-way synchronization solution for people that want to extend their Google Calendar onto their desktop calendar systems or mobile devices. It can synchronize Google Calendar with all the latest Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, Palm, and BlackBerry devices in addition to Outlook, Lotus Notes, Palm Desktop, and Groupwise applications.

Make changes to your calendar from any device or desktop program and rest assured that your Google Calendar will be updated automatically the next time you sync. Whether you’re in the office, at home or on the road, you can now have the power of Google Calendar at your fingertips.

CompanionLink for Google Calendar is the perfect solution for you if:
  • you want to access your Google Calendar appointments from your mobile device or desktop calendar program
  • you want to be able to make changes to your calendar from your desktop calendar program or mobile device and have it automatically update your Google Calendar
  • you don’t want to re-enter and maintain information in two different calendars but would like access to your calendars from multiple sources
  • you want to be able to modify your calendar when you don’t have access to a computer or an internet connection
  • you plan on buying a new mobile device and want to be sure it syncs with your Google Calendar (we work with all the latest devices!)
  • you never want to miss a meeting or appointment while you’re away from your computer
