NVIDIA is announcing a new solution for handheld devices that integrates Windows Mobile 5.0 with the NVIDIA GoForce 5500 graphics-processing unit (GPU) and associated software. This new platform from NVIDIA promises fast time to market and lower development costs for device manufacturers, plus state-of-the-art multimedia capabilities for users.

They will enjoy a single convenient device that combines productivity of Windows applications with iPOD-equivalent audio quality, fluid video record and playback, multi-pixel camera support, and 3D graphics and gaming performance that rivals standalone mobile gaming platforms.

For device OEMs/ODMs, the inclusion of drivers, APIs, and reference designs for Intel and Freescale processors means much faster development time, lower engineering resource costs, and more ability focus on developing applications that benefit from the high-performance GoForce 5500 GPU.

NVIDIA’s handheld groups will announce this new solution at a press conference at Computex on June 7 in Taipei (June 6 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time). The press conference may include handset and mobile system vendors that are planning to or have designed products based on this platform, which include Acer, Arima Communications BenQ, HTC, Modeo, Reigncom (iRiver G10 gaming platform), and Samsung.
