HTC STRTrk - new name for Qtek 8500 MS Smartphone + first reviews from EU paper press are negative June 26, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. After HTC MTeoR ("meteor" - MS Smartphone with 3G) and HTC TyTN ("tythan" - small Pocket PC phone with 3G), apparently here comes HTC STRTrk ("star trek" - MS Smartphone that looks like Motorola RAZR v3)...
Officially the name still is Qtek 8500 - as you can see on official HTC website, but we have information that this phone actually will be sold by retail shops under the name "HTC STRTrk". It must be said that this new naming convention of HTC phones is just a knock-off of the naming convention invented by Motorola that uses such names for their phones as "RAZR" and "SLVR" and Motorola employees wear even Motorola branded clothing with name "XPRT" (that stands for for "expert") on it! Interestingly paper press in Europe is already bashing HTC STRTrk for weak construction: when the display (flap) of the phone is closed and one is using external buttons, then the phone is emitting annoying crunching and gnashing noises! On the other hand the external display of HTC STRTrk is being praised: one can read SMS messages on it without opening the display, one can control MP3 player with it and it provides a lot of valuable information. Apparently price of the HTC STRTrk will be in EU: 499 Euro, what may seem a bit overpriced when one considers that this phone has neither Wi-Fi nor 3G/UMTS... and that Motorola RAZR V3i (2G/GSM) can be purchased without subscription for 250 Euro and Motorola RAZR V3x (3G/UMTS) can be purchased without subscription for 300 Euro.
