Vodafone Germany announces new Windows Mobile phones July 07, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. The "new" part of these announcements is in the fact, that also Vodafone will be selling them. Vodafone is launching Qtek 8500 MS Smartphone (Motorola RAZR lookalike) and also HTC Hermes Pocket PC phone (under the name "Vodafone VPA III"). These phones are the very same phones that will be sold by HTC itself (i.e. the manufacturer), by i-mate and by many wireless carriers. However Vodafone is the biggest mobile operator (carrier) in the world (not counting Chinese operators), so it is worth noticing that it is relying on Windows Mobile phones! Availability of these phones at Vodafone Germany means also that other countries where Vodafone is active, including Vodafone's home turf (i.e. UK), will also see the new Vodafone bradned and Vodafone sold Windows Mobile phones. It is worth mentioning however, that purchasing Windows Mobile phones at Vodafone without Vodafone phone service subscription usually is not cost effective and also in this case contract-free prices will be too steep compared with online shops: Qtek 8500 smartphone will cost at Vodafone 599.50 Euro (416 British pounds or 763 U.S. dollars) and VPA compact III 3G Pocket PC phone will cost 899.50 Euro (624 British pounds or 1146 U.S. dollars)! These prices are not acceptable as device-only no-service prices, but if you already own Vodafone subscription or you would be interested in purchasing one, the subsidized prices (that include long-time subscription commitment) will be however attractive.
