Echovox unveils its m-payment solution for Microsoft Windows Smartphone at the Microsoft Mobility Developer Conference April 01, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Echovox SmartPay allows software developers to launch payper-use enabled applications throughout Europe. Echovox, one of the European mobile solutions companies, announced the launch of its global m-payment solution for Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone based applications at the Microsoft Mobility Developer Conference in Paris. Echovox SmartPay allows any Smartphone application to be monetized through a simple pay per use mechanism. Thanks to Echovox ICON (Inter Carrier Open Network) coverage, Microsoft Smartphone application developers can distribute applications with this model throughout Europe. Applications enabled with Echovox SmartPay will prompt the mobile user for payment at preset usage intervals, the user must then confirm payment through a simple “YES/NO” interface and the transaction is completed in seconds, unlocking the application for the desired usage. Echovox SmartPay includes a complex clearing mechanism allowing software developers to seamlessly receive the proceeds of their transactions from more than 36 mobile operators and 10 countries throughout Europe. “One of the key success factors for Smartphone platforms is the wide choice of applications that will be accessible to mobile users. On the other hand one of the main challenges faced by mobile application developers is the distribution and the monetization of their applications. With Echovox SmartPay, mobile users will be able to download software to their Smartphones over the air, and pay for it each time they use it. This is probably the best economical model for both the mobile users and the application developers. We are proud to be the first company enabling m-payment on the Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone software platform” said David Marcus, Echovox’s CEO. “Echovox SmartPay offers developers and operators choice in the way they drive revenue from customers through a simple pay per use mechanism,” said Robbie Wright, Director, Mobile Devices Marketing Group, Microsoft EMEA. “Through providing greater choice, this solution will continue to encourage consumer adoption of the exciting range of applications available on Smartphone’s rich software platform.” Echovox SmartPay includes specific APIs for the Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone Software platform enabling developers to integrate m-payment into their existing applications with very little effort and time.
