Review: Hands on with the HTC MTeoR July 08, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Lutzh Haedrich. We are happy that we can offer you an deeper look at the HTC MTeoR - side by side with some other newer but also nearly historic Windows Mobile devices! Enjoy the trip from the very first released Windows Mobile Smartphone to tomorrows first 3G equipped HTC MTeoR! ![]() Welcome to HTC MTeoR show! If you are interested in the very first 3G Windows Mobile smartphone, then you may already know the facts. If not, then check back and see the HTC flyer for the HTC MTeoR! We invite you to take a trip into the past and the future. We put the very first released Windows Mobile smartphone from HTC side by side with the very first HTC clamshell design smartphone and the very first 3G Windows Mobile smartphone from the same company. See the HTC MTeoR and the QTEK 8500 next to the SPV classic. ![]() The HTC MTeoR with the standard windows today screen, that fits perfectly to the blue lighted key pad. As you can see I have no 3G in the village that I live. But at the office I have full 3G coverage as you can see on the screen shots below. The green today screen comes with an colour scheme called "Jupiter". ![]() Old school vs. new school. The HTC MTeoR next to the SPV classic, the first Windows Mobile powered Smartphone. I've got this in January 2003 and payed a little over 500 € for it since Orange is not available in Germany and I had to buy it without contract. It still works like it should, I don't know how long I haven't used it but one press on the power button and it went alive again! ![]() Three years and 6 month later HTC is not only manufactoring for carriers anymore. The first device with forward facing arrows that represent HTC as a brand. ![]() The design of the classic was special (I did not want to write terrible, but yes, it was terrible). But it was the first available mass market Windows Mobile smartphone, so I had to buy it. ![]() The SPV classic reminds on an Pocket PC that was shrinked. Even the connector on the bottom looks like the one from Compaq's iPAQ series. The MTeoR connector looks different to the older smartphone series too - we look at it closer at the end of this picture series. ![]() Storage card slots back then and now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The joystick of the HTC MTeoR replaces the up and down key of the SPV classic. The joystick allowes up/down/press commands. See pictures below for more information. ![]() ![]() ![]() What a beautiful back. ![]() ![]() The new storage card format is very much discussed. MicroSD is available at 1 Gigabyte max at the moment. ![]() ![]() It looks much bigger than it is in reality. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A look into the battery housing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is where your sim card is located. The flap you can see helps you taking the sim card out again. See pictures below. ![]() ![]() ![]() The MTeoR next to the Orange c500 and the QTek 8500. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In front the HTC MTeoR compared to the Orange c500. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The all new HTC bootloader screen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() HTC MTeoR, the first 3G Windows Mobile smartphone from HTC and the QTek 8500, the first clamshell design Windows Mobile smartphone from HTC. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the sun. No trouble reading the screen under this conditions. ![]() ![]() ![]() The new connectors side by side. The QTek 8500 connector is different to anything else we've seen before. The MTeoR's connector is different to e.g. Orange c500 or MDA compact, but the standard mini usb cable still works! ![]() ![]() ![]() Blue keypad lights illuminate the MTeoR at night. That fits perfectly to the standard windows mobile today screen. ![]() Some pictures taken with the MTeoR's camera. I only resized them to the 800 x 450 pixels format here. ![]() See the animal in the red sector? It was flying by when I was taking the picture! ![]() ![]() ![]() So, to finish here - I love the MTeoR, but I still can't wait to get the HTC TyTN for an comparsion review. It will land here early next week, so watch this space for more! If you have any question feel free to ask in our forums! By Lutzh
