The thinness battle of QWERTY smartphones is on July 09, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. That is true that Motorola Q was was the thinnest smartphone in the world:
... but it is no longer true because this month Samsung SGH-i320 has been launched and it has exactly the same thinness as Motorola Q - 11.5 mm (0.45 inch):
... so should Verizon Wireless and Motorola change their advertisements? Read on! Yes, that's true: now no longer Motorola Q is the "the world's slimmest smartphone" but merely a "one of the slimmest smartphones in the world". Legally speaking Samsung could therefore sue Motorola (and Verizon Wireless) and prevent airing and displaying Motorola advertisements, however it is important to realize from the end user point of view that Motorola's claims are simply not true. Moreover the Samsung SGH-i320, having the very same thinness as Motorola Q, is much smaller in other dimensions (width, length):
... what can convince many users to give up on Motorola and go with the Samsung! Apart from battle over features (scroll wheel, USB logical drive instead of ActiveSync, Wi-Fi attachable over mini-SD card, 3G/UMTS/CDMA/EDGE, etc) for many users physical dimensions play the most important role, and it looks like having the same thinness, Motorola Q is losing to Samsung SGH-i320 because of big overall size.
