HTC thrives despite missing out on hardware innovation - revenues for June 2006 announced July 12, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Dominating market position guarantees that given company doesn't have to be that innovative to thrive. We know it from example of Microsoft itself but HTC seems to imitate Microsoft in this respect... High Tech Computer Corp. announced that total revenues for June 2006 reached NT$ 10,060 million, up 92.38% YoY, while total revenues from January to June 2006 were NT$ 50,004 million, jump 74.26% YoY. Commentary: HTC has not released yet a Windows Mobile phone with QWERTY keyboard for single handed usage, HTC has not released yet a Windows Mobile phone with built-in GPS, HTC has not released yet a Windows Mobile phone with a camera that can be twisted, HTC has not released yet a Windows Mobile phone with built-in hard disk (or multiple-GB flash disk)... and the newly released first 3G MS Smartphone in history - HTC MTeOR has no video calling feature at all despite claim that it is a 3G phone (it has UMTS radio interface but no video calling support in hardware or software). Despite this whole lack of innovation, growth of HTC is impressive - mainly thanks to sales of operator branded handsets. Hopefully Fujitsu-Siemens, BenQ, Samsung and Motorola will offer soon a breath of fresh air with their new handsets, because domination of HTC means innovation in Windows Mobile phone world gets stifled.
