History of Microsoft Smartphone at one glance
July 14, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

Winston Churchill said, that history is written by the victors, but Windows Mobile phones still have only miniscule market share globally (Symbian globally is leading with about 80% of smartphone market share), although in USA they are already number one (and even beaten Palm OS). If you are interested in having historical perspective on the Windows Mobile phones a new resource is now available!

A resource with exact history of Microsoft smartphone devices can be found here:

SmartphoneHistory.com

... and creator of this resource explains the origins:

In the past when I wanted to know specifications on devices I found it was very hard to find accurate details and quite often one site contradicted what another said regarding device build and memory etc. and so the idea behind the site was created.

The simple aim was to have a central site that listed all the Windows Powered Smartphones devices that have been created; this includes devices that unfortunately did not make it to a final release. The reason for this is that when looking at the site you can see devices laid out in chronological order so at a glance you can understand how the Windows Mobile Smartphone evolved into what we know today.

I also intend to show all the important specifications that you find people asking like "when was this released?" and "what processor did this device have?", A lot of sites have bits and pieces of information on the Smartphone but they do not show them in a chronological order and quite often they have conflicting information which only causes confusion.

Over time I will be adding more information about ROM versions and development notes. The feedback form is to help others to let me know if they see an error or to help improve the site with more information.

This is the first stage in the site and I will be adding more features to make if more user friendly. The next stage will bigger and better so look out for PocketPC Mobile history which is in development as we speak.
