3G version of Samsung i320 - with video calling and circular wheel - is coming to Orange UK! July 16, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. It looks that apart from the Samsung i320 smartphone that will support only GSM/GPRS/EDGE there is also an improved version of Samsung i320 coming soon - with video calling and UMTS/3G support! During Windows Mobile community event - that took place yesterday in London, UK, EU - Orange (European wireless carrier) was presenting their upcoming Windows Mobile phones, and among others also 3G compatible Samsung i320 was presented as you can see here (click on the image there to zoom it). On the photo one can see not only a camera in the front - for video calling - but also in the legend/description of this phone it is clearly written "3G"!!! Moreover instead of cursor keys, a scrolling wheel around the OK action key is visible! It means that similar solution like it is in Samsung i300 smartphone will be applied: not a scroll wheel on the side but a circular wheel for circular scrolling in the middle of the keyboard - just under the display! This is huge usability improvement! Conclusion: since HTC Breeze (known also as HTC MteoR or Orange SPV C700), that is "the first 3G Smartphone" has no video calling (HTC claims that video quality was too low so they gave up on it), it looks like it can be Samsung i320 that will be the first true 3G/UMTS smartphone - "true" because it will have also video calling. Video calling and UMTS support are nowadays available even in ultra cheap mobile phones in Europe, so not having it in smart phones (like MS Smartphone or Pocket PC phone) is slowly becoming unacceptable. Unfortunately Windows Mobile fanboys are hiding this fact and coercing people to buy also non-3G mobiles! If this information will be confirmed - that Samsung i320 will be sold also as true 3G smartphone with video calling and UMTS support - considering the fact that it will have circular scroll wheel and true QWEWRTY keyboard for single handed (!) usage - it may become the best Windows Mobile phone of all times! Samsung i320 is also very thin - contrary to bulky HTC TyTN (aka Orange SPV M3100) - what further can make it a big hit!
