The largest Windows Mobile community in the world July 24, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. What it is? Some website owned by some MVP guy? Some web forum? No! The largest Windows Mobile community in the world is Club i-mate of i-mate company! While some web forums claim to have tens of thousands of users (although most of them are inactive) the i-mate club has now over 500,000 members! In other words: since i-mate is forcing people to enter valid IMEI number of a phone to get access to ROM updates and some goodies, this announcement also indirectly says that i-mate has sold much over (not all users are registering there) 500,000 phones with i-mate brand! It is worth mentioning that now, when HTC, that was manufacturing all the phones branded by i-mate, is starting to sell Windows Mobile phones under its own brand, with it its own support structures, the future of i-mate is becoming a bit unclear. Unlike most other Windows Mobile news sources, that never go to any trade shows or conferences, we go very often and in our latest interview with CEO of i-mate:
... he indicated, that i-mate is considering using also other than HTC manufacturers! In other words: it could be that i-mate knew already then about HTC starting selling phones under its own brand name! One is for sure: now that HTC is selling phones under its own "HTC" brand, i-mate must try much harder to remain profitable... and extending support may be one of those ways. * * * * * Club i-mate creates the World’s Largest Windows Mobile community Half a million and counting Today the web site for i-mate www.clubimate.com registered its 500,000th member, making the club the world’s largest Microsoft Windows Mobile user community. The service provides online commitment and support to i-mate customers who rely on their devices to manage their mobile lives. Club i-mate provides live multi-lingual twenty-four hour technical support services to members, with access to software patches, device tutorials, updates and the latest ROM upgrades. It also features utilities, applications and tools to help members make the most of their i-mate devices. In addition, every owner of an i-mate device can get a Hosted Exchange email account. “i-mate prides itself on providing unprecedented levels of support and services to our customers around the world,” stated Jim Morrison, i-mate Chief Executive Officer. “The growth of our online community demonstrates our dedication to progressive customer care and support”. i-mate also delivers global warranty support at any of its 22 service centres around the world. This support ensures customers are provided with the service assistance they need no matter where they are. In addition, i-mate provides its corporate customers with a hotline to dedicated i-mate support team, guaranteeing they always deal with the same i-mate staff members who are familiar with their account, preferences and history. “In a highly competitive market where customers change devices every 12-18 months, encouraging greater application usage and reducing churn are critical issues for both vendors and operators. Differentiation through the provision of services, applications and support is key to creating high-value and loyal customer communities. Club i-mate is a prime example of just such a service,” reveals Nick Spencer, Research Analyst, Canalys. To celebrate this milestone, i-mate is offering four limited edition red i-mate JASJARs in an online prize draw at www.clubimate.com for four weeks to members from today.
