Handango declines selling of uncertified/unsigned software for MS Smartphone April 03, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.
(Jason Wells, VP of Channel Partnerships, Handango) During MDC Europe, on our question why Handango is not listing (in any catalogs) uncertified and unsigned applications for MS Smartphone, so that users who unlocked their phones, could buy them and developers who develop them could test the market and certify only those that are most popular, answered: we (Handango) donīt do it and will not do it because it would damage our partners (at this moment Mr. Wells was looking at Orange people). So much for fantasies of some people that in some time in future some operators will be offering unlocked Smartphones... and for developers it means that without costly certification they have no chances to generate any revenues whatsoever. What does it mean in practice? It means: number of freeware and cheapware applications for MS Smartphone will be incredibly small (compared to Symbian, Pocket PC and Palm OS - other platforms for cell phones).
