Spybot for Windows Mobile - another anti-virus program - released August 13, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. There are no virus programs for Windows Mobile but it is not standing in the way of companies and developers, who offer anti-virus solutions already... If you feel like joining virus paranoia is something worth doing, then meet yet another useless (because no virus programs exist for Windows Mobile) anti-virus program - Spybot-S&D that works for both Windows Mobile platforms: Pocket PC and Smartphone. our new Spybot-S&D for Windows Mobile. We're quite aware that this topic controversial, with some people saying that speaking about viruses on cellphones is just a hype, while others report about multiple infection attempts in crowded places. Our opinion on this is simply that it's better to protect yourself before something happens than to do it afterwards. Pocket PCs and Smartphones based on Windows have a growing market share, and it's much easier for malware writers to target the more or less known platform Windows than Symbian or others. [...] While viruses for Symbian and Windows Mobile currently seem more like proof-of-concept studies, the Windows Mobile platform offers malware writers who already know Windows a very similar environment. Some may call it a hype, but that's what people said about spyware 5 years ago as well, and our opinion is that it's better to protect yourself before something happens than to do it afterwards. Spybot-S&D for Windows Mobile uses a lightweight version of the detection engine of Spybot-S&D for Windows to detect threats for Windows Mobile and Symbian both, the later because Bluetooth worms could spread over OS borders, and while they would not perform on an incompatible OS, they would still waste precious space on the device.
