Mobile version of the HTC Web site launched August 17, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. It looks like HTC is trying harder and harder to provide more support for users of HTC manufactured phones...
The new mobile website is available here: mobile.htc.com ... and it doesn't contain any worthwhile information yet, just: links to news sites in mobile format, links to mobile online shopping and other information resources (including some sites in WAP format - not accessible from regular Internet browser in PC). Generally no original content or applications - just a mobile website with plenty of links. Now, that HTC tries to be a "big mobile phone brand" with its own branding and not just a manufacturer making phones for others, clearly HTC will be trying to do similar things to these that companies like Nokia and Sony Ericsson do. However unlike portal of Sony Ericsson for example, that delivers also themes, ring tones and applications (in Java format), the mobile portal of HTC is pretty much empty right now. It is however right step in right direction, so we hope that also information about ROM upgrades and possibly also ROM upgrades themselves could be available there... as well as free software working exclusively on phones made by HTC. One is for sure: in order to differentiate from other mobile phone manufacturers, having mobile website with relevant content, including software, is crucial in a very competitive mobile phone market nowadays. Please note: apart from full blown AvantGo channel we also offer mobile version: mobile.msmobiles.com! Update: it is interesting to mention that Windows Mobile users can access Live services of Microsoft in a mobile way too by entering address "mobile.live.com" (works only in mobile device:
... but it doesn't work from PC)... and Microsoft has even mobilized their blogging service MSN Spaces so that all blogs there can be accessed in mobile way too, if a user adds "mobile" to the URL of given blog (just before "spaces")! MSN Spaces bloggers can also access their blogs by signing-in here: mobile.spaces.live.com. Clearly also Microsoft itself has catched up when it comes to mobile access! Update 2: please note that Live for Windows Mobile still is not released for broader public and although some versions of this program are available unofficially all over Internet, we will not provide links to them here (because we don't condone unofficial software distribution). Live for Windows Mobile contains among others new improved MSN Messenger (now renamed to Live Messenger) and you can read more about it here but the waiting for (official) release of Live for Windows Mobile is not over yet.
