Operators insist on NOT HAVING Microsoft Messenger on Microsoft Powered phones August 20, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Orange SPV M3100 Pocket PC phone, that is a HTC Hermes branded by Orange, as well as some other HTC Hermes phones, have no built-in MSN Messenger and this messenger is not (!) even available as separate download from Microsoft. Since Orange anyway has no HSDPA network (that could require some fine tuning, in UK the HSDPA is available only from Vodafone and T-Mobile) we recommend to solve this problem by installing ROM image from HTC TyTN - a HTC Hermes branded by HTC itself... It's been removed. In fact MSN Messenger, which should in reality be a fantastic way for networks to reap data revenue, has been dropped out of almost every Microsoft handset at the request of the networks. It's deeply annoying for me, as a Microsoft fan, to not have a phone that comes out-of-the-box with this facility when Three customers can simply use a Java app on their non-Microsoft phones to stay in touch for no additional data charges. :( For other people to see a lack of Microsoft Messenger on my Microsoft Powered phone is a tad embarrassing to say the least. Plus having to wait for Windows Live Mobile or a a network solution is pain in the backside. To learn more click here. Conclusion: Microsoft fails again to meet needs of end users by not providing download of MSN Messenger for those users who have been duped by operators into purchasing Windows Mobile phone without pre-installed MSN messenger. Also Windows Live for Windows Mobile (that contains successor to MSN Messenger - the Live Messenger) has not (!) been released yet by Microsoft although it is available for closed circle of beta testers and as unofficial copy on mirrors all over Internet.
