HTC Excalibur smartphone FCC approved - must be coming to USA soon
August 22, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.
HTC Excalibur may have too slow processor for Skype, but it has built-in Wi-Fi and QWERTY keyboard for single-handed usage and is very small, so it may find fans after all...
The FCC code of HTC Excalibur is "NM8EXCA":
... and from the FCC documentation the following can be confirmed:
- Wi-Fi is built-in
- the phone is Quad-band GSM (GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900) with Internet access through GPRS and EDGE, no 3G/UMTS
- also 802.11g (fast Wi-Fi) seems to be supported, not just 802.11b
- HTC requests confidentiality for photos of the phone and the user manual until October 2nd, 2006, what indicates that this phone may be commercially launched in October this year!
- it looks like model "EXCA100" - without jog bar - is being approved by FCC, it could be that EXCA200 - the model with jog bar - will be on sale overseas, but not in USA
