O2 Xda cosmo smartphone unveiled - HTC Excalibur branded by O2 Europe
August 26, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.
Here is how it looks like (high resolution photo):
Here are some highlights about this phone, that are known for sure:
- it is branded by O2 Europe, meaning that it will be on sale in UK, Germany and Ireland - as O2 Xda cosmo ! The branding can be noticed on the right side over the display - the O2-typical "Xda" letters and under the display the "O2" (symbol of Oxygen) logo !
- it should be available commercially in September 2006 or October 2006
- weight: 135 g
- very small size that is really impressive and makes this phone not only pocketable but simply smaller than competition, including most RIM BlackBerry devices
- very thin - approx. 14 mm - what is slightly more than Motorola Q and Samsung SGH-i320 that both are 11.5 thin but this phone is much smaller than Motorola Q
- built-in Wi-Fi (100% certain!)
- powered by MS Smartphone not Pocket PC version of Windows Mobile, what means that it has no touch screen (like Treo smartphones) but what also means that it will be much cheaper than Pocket PC phones
Other information about this phone on the basis of various rumors:
- GSM, GPRS and EDGE but no UMTS and no HSDPA
- slow processor of 200 MHz
- touch pad (visible on the photo above!) - although in reality it may be just up-down elongated button
