Dodgy Handango announces finalists of annual software awards August 28, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Handango rips off developers (leaving them only 50-60% of money paid by customers), sells stolen software, sells ringtones/themes as software, sells Java software as Windows Mobile software (although it is NOT working in most Windows Mobile devices)... and in annual scheme to attract customers and generate some free publicity, Handango announces also yearly "Handango Champion Awards"... ... in 2 waves: finalists (3 top candidates from each platform and each category - announced now, see below!) and winners (1 from each category - to be announced on September 11). Apart from competitions where readers/users determine winners (like this one), both Handango's competition and best software competition from Pocket PC Magazine are based on dodgy criteria! Why? Because in both cases non-representative panel of hand-picked and biased judges is selecting best software! ... but they are not based on popular vote of all people/users. Please note also that Handango's top software lists are based on total sales and not on number of software programs sold, so expensive program that sells just few pieces out-competes very popular but cheap or free software. Information from Handango follows. * * * * * Handango Announces the 2006 Handango Champion Awards Finalists; Annual Awards Honor Outstanding Mobile Applications Handango, the provider of mobile content, announced the finalists of the sixth annual Handango Champion Awards, which recognize exceptional mobile content providers and their applications. Open nominations were held from June 14-July 4, 2006 on Handango's Web site to determine the 2006 finalists. An independent panel of judges will choose the winners, who will be announced on September 11th at the sixth annual Handango Partner Summit in Santa Monica, California. Each Handango Champion Award winner will receive a prize package that includes a $5,000 marketing stipend, placement in a special edition of the Handango Champion Newsletter and a variety of other promotional opportunities. Winners and finalists will also be featured prominently on Handango's Web and on-device storefronts.
