i-mate belatedly launches officially i-mate JASJAM Pocket PC phone and i-mate SP JAS smartphone
August 29, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.

Why i-mate is releasing both these phones months after competition? What is the business model of i-mate company now, that HTC is selling phones under their own HTC brand?

Well, now, in the new situation with HTC, the i-mate company should try harder, much harder, but they don't: new stories they still release in user hostile PDF format and the pages with specifications consist of a bitmap, instead of easily searchable text!

i-mate launches two 3G Windows Mobile phones with thumb-wheel menu navigation New i-mate SP JAS and i-mate JASJAM target growing smart device market

Dubai headquartered i-mate, a dedicated Windows Mobile 5.0 device manufacturer, has launched two new lightning-quick 3G handsets. The technology allows for download speeds approaching those of broadband connection in your home and/or office while on the go. The i-mate SP JAS and the i-mate JASJAM are the first i-mate devices to feature thumb-wheels for easy menu navigation, allowing users to quickly scroll within their inbox or simply move from one function to the next.

The i-mate SP JAS offers Microsoft Windows Mobile functionality in a stylish and slim mobile phone format, while the i-mate JASJAM is a fully-featured Microsoft Windows Pocket PC, or handheld computer phone and one of the first products in the world to offer 3G (WCDMA), EDGE and WiFi global roaming access.

The i-mate JASJAM also features a 400 MHz processor for blistering high speed data access and quad band support for global connectivity which will make it the device of choice for business travelers with a need for constant and fast connectivity.

Jack Craine, Global Sales Director at i-mate says: “A recent study by Canalys1 confirmed that the market for mobile office functionality is rapidly increasing. We have developed an extended range of high-speed, multi-functional i-mate models to address this need, especially for small and medium sized organizations and large corporates.”

Pre-loaded with Microsoft Exchange Direct Push2 technology, both devices provide instant access to emails, allowing users to open and view Microsoft Office attachments in Word, Excel and PowerPoint Mobile in both English and Arabic.

Craine continues: “Microsoft Windows Mobile phones are now the preferred solution for business users to access data on the move. Businesses are opting for handheld wireless devices for anytime, anywhere access. The i-mate JASJAM and the i-mate SP JAS take on-the-go productivity to a new level of speed and set the benchmark for mobile wireless computing.”

The i-mate JASJAM provides users with a range of dynamic flexible data input methods including i-mate’s scroll wheel, a touch-screen display and slider QWERTY keyboard. It features a 2.0 megapixel camera with macro mode. Both devices also feature a second lens for simple video conferencing connectivity.

For mobile business professionals who prefer a more conventional mobile phone format, the i-mate SP JAS combines the ergonomics of a stylish and slim device with the full power of Windows Mobile functionality.

Featuring a bright, large, full-colour screen for easily viewing Microsoft Office documents and email attachments, the i-mate SP JAS is beautifully crafted with bold lines and a black and grey casing that combines both smooth and matte surfaces for extra grip.

The i-mate SP JAS and i-mate JASJAM are available now at USD $888 (AED 3,259, SR 3,330) and USD $544 (AED 1999, SR 2,040) respectively. A complimentary trial version of i-mate Suite – i-mate’s own mobile device solution that minimizes downtime, safeguards data, and allows secure access and information transfers – is pre-installed on each device.
