Windows Mobile phones at IFA 2006 trade show September 01, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Today (self-appointed) the biggest consumer electronics trade show started - IFA Berlin 2006 in Germany. Organizers of this trade show claim falsely (!) that it is the biggest show in consumer electronics, although American CES is bigger and despite the fact, that some major companies like Canon are missing...
Windows Mobile phones at IFA 2006 are being presented mainly at 3 stands: Microsoft, O2 and T-Mobile. As of now: nothing wholly new has been presented yet in area of Windows Mobile phones. It is rather unlikely that any major announcements will take place at IFA 2006 anyway, because it ends on September 6 and next major Windows Mobile phones related announcements are: September 7 (HTC - global) and September 12 (Vodafone, Palm - European). Microsoft has stand at IFA 2006 and Microsoft's focus in area of Windows Mobile is: office applications and mobile multimedia. Microsoft presents Windows Mobile 5.0 as a convergence device that combines music, videos, images, MP3 player, digital camera and mobile phone - all in one device. On the side of office applications Microsoft presents Push Email, Excel, Word and Powerpoint Mobile as well as Windows Media Player 10 Mobile. Official partners of Microsoft at IFA are mobile operators: O2 and T-Mobile. Orange operator has no division in Germany and is missing at IFA. Conclusion: IFA is not over yet, so there may be yet some unexpected novelties presented there, but for now we cannot report yet anything new in area of Windows Mobile phones. Anyway as any trade show or conference also IFA 2006 gives opportunity to touch and play with contemporary devices and thus to take more informed buying decisions...
