More wrongdoings from Handango
September 06, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R.

Recently we were reporting about several (!) dodgy practices of Handango and formerly we were deservedly (!) bashing Handango - number one mobile software shop - for many years already. Handango is horrible on many levels so clearly it is also wrong that Microsoft cooperates with Handango within Windows Marketplace initiative.

What are latest debacles coming from Handango? Here they are:
  • Handango demands money again and again - for a software that was already purchased once:
Four months ago I went on a little software spree and bought four titles within a month. Everything went great, the software downloaded fine, and I went on with my business. Today I had to re-download a title from the spree so I logged in to my control panel, went to recent purchases and much to my dismay, was hit with a screen asking me to pay a $6.95 download protection fee to re-download my software. W.T.H is going on with that??? I can't help but feel like I am being ripped off!

  • Handango fails to respect former affiliate and uses illegally external brands:
As of today, I am informing you that you are still using my name, my logo, my website without my permission along with NEVER PAYING ME FOR OVER 1 YEAR.
I would like to make it clear that this store is in no way affiliated with me! They are using my name without permission. What you are doing is completely ILLEGAL

Obviously in the view of many wrongdoings of Handango, including ripping-off both developers and end customers, we recommend you not to use Handango at all and instead purchase your software at MobiHand, or Motricity (that owns PocketGear.com for Pocket PC software and Smartphone.net for MS Smartphone software) - or, if possible, to purchase the software directly from software developers!

We also wish that Microsoft and wireless carriers (mobile operators) could stop any cooperation with Handango.
