Microsoft sponsors Handango September 11, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Handango may be dodgy company hated both by end users and developers, but never mind that: Microsoft not only plugs Handango in their Windows Marketplace but also is sponsoring Handango Summit through cash injections (see below)! Handango's Summit is invite-only event, so Microsoft sponsoring it, is no big news, because Microsoft sponsors several invite-only events, but in case of Handango it is simply wrong... as many Handango affiliates - who abandon Handago in droves and select instead MobiHand and other companies - prove! * * * * * Top Content Providers and Mobile Market Leaders Gather for Exclusive, Invite-Only Event Handango, retailer of smartphone content, announced the commencement of the sixth annual Handango Partner Summit this week at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, California. For two days, this premier, invite-only event brings together the industry's leading mobile content providers, handset manufacturers, wireless operators and influencers from around the world to explore the current state of and future opportunities in the mobile content market. Microsoft Windows Mobile and Microsoft Windows Vista are platinum sponsors of the event, with Nokia, BlackBerry and Motorola also on board as premier sponsors. Additional sponsors include Alltel, Verizon Wireless, Symbian and PalmSource Inc., an ACCESS Company. The 2006 Handango Partner Summit features in-depth presentations from leading OEMs and carriers, networking sessions and small-group peer sessions. Attendees will also hear from Handango executives and keynote speakers. This year's speakers include:
During the Partner Summit, Handango will also honor the best in mobile content with the prominent Handango Champion Awards, presented during a special event on the evening of September 11th. The award finalists were nominated by customers and judged by a selection of industry experts and members of the media. "Sponsorship of the Handango Partner Summit further solidifies the Microsoft Windows Mobile team's strong dedication to driving innovation in the mobile marketplace," said Daniel Bouie, Senior Marketing Manager of Microsoft. "Working with Handango, we are committed to offering a wide selection of productive and fun applications to consumers through a multitude of distribution channels." "The Microsoft Mobile Platforms Division is excited about sponsoring the Handango Partner Summit this year," said Frank Gocinski, ISV Business Development Manager, Microsoft Mobile Platforms Division. "With the sales of mobile PCs (notebooks, Tablet PCs, Ultra-Mobile PCs) rapidly increasing and the new Ultra-Mobile PCs entering the market, we expect the Handango Partner Summit to be an excellent forum for discussing mobile application development opportunities for Windows-enabled mobile PCs."
