HTC dumps brutally i-mate and O2 September 19, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Dopod's manager has just spilled his guts about HTC's real actions behind the scenes, and it came out: HTC has just brutally dumped i-mate and O2! Why these 2 matter? Because at the very beginning the first Windows Mobile phones manufactured by HTC were co-designed by current CEO of i-mate (as he told us here) and in cooperation with O2 - in UK. In other words: now jokes are over and i-mate must release, as soon as possible, new phones from other than HTC manufactures or die. We know that i-mate JAQ, i-mate JAQ2 and i-mate JAQ3 are underway, but the question remains: will i-mate survive in the view of this drastic change and betrayal on part of HTC? According to Prim Krithivasan, Director of Dopod's Regional Operator Division in ANZ & India, HTC has cut its ties with both O2 and i-mate. "O2 doesn't have the relationship [with HTC] anymore... [and] going forward the HTC relationship won't extend to i-mate." Krithivasan confirmed to CNET.com.au that, in future, the only HTC designs available in the Australian market would be sold through Dopod. To learn more click here.
