Latest news about Palm Treo 750v smartphone
September 20, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
This phone is not perfect but it is the first Windows Mobile Treo for GSM and the first for UMTS, so it will truly be a big hit, no matter what...
Some latest highlights and news about Treo 750v smartphone:
- Vodafone has only 3 (!) months of exclusivity, after which other operators/carriers will be able to sell it; in other words: starting January 2007 any operator in Europe, USA or Asia will be able to sell this phone too - not to mention distribution through retailers
- Vodafone will start selling Treo 750v at the beginning of October 2006 - in its divisions all over Europe, including UK, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Switzerland. There is Vodafone present also in New Zealand but it is unclear whether this phone will be launched there - New Zealand is not in Europe after all (although some people think so).
- the price at Vodafone - without subscription (without SIM card) will be 650 Euro (what amounts to 430 British pounds). In other words: this is not a low end phone and for the same price users can get also phones with built-in Wi-Fi, HSDPA and even built-in GPS. This phone is clearly overpriced and Palm's profit margins on this phone will be big (expect big advertisements of this phone!).
- Treo 750v has no HSDPA and employees of Palm, who claim otherwise have no clue what they are talking about (they also claim that Vodafone has not launched HSDPA yet although it is not true - HSDPA is already fully operational in Europe, both at Vodafone and T-Mobile)
Update: Jason Langridge from Microsoft UK claims here that Treo 750v has HSDPA!
- despite claim that this smartphone is "designed exclusively for Europe" - what is just a white lie and marketing pep-talk - in fact this smartphone supports both American GSM bands (850 MHz and 1900 MHz) and both American UMTS bands (850 MHz and 1900 MHz) apart from European GSM (900 MHz and 1800 MHz) and European (and Japanese) UMTS (2100 MHz). Shortly speaking: it will go on sale also in USA early next year!
