Push Email technology from Microsoft is a failure September 30, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Most web hosting companies, that were offering Microsoft Exchange hosting have already applied latest patch and they offer Microsoft's push email for their Exchange accounts... but users couldn't be bothered. Users are not interested. The hope of Microsoft, that introduction of Microsoft's own push email solution will be big boost for Windows Mobile (and for sales of Microsoft Exchange) have not materialized. Clearly Microsoft should do more than using the approach "if you will build it, then they will come". Unfortunately Microsoft is not offering push email notifications for Hotmail users and if people can't push email for their private email accounts (most popular and the best technologically now being Gmail from Google) then they will not be interested in using anything else than RIM BlackBerry for their enterprise email! Of course some operators offer RIM BlackBerry Connect program for Windows Mobile, but in most cases users just buy BlackBerry device and are not bothered with Windows Mobile. This is true problem and clearly Microsoft has lost the battle in enterprise market to RIM BlackBerry devices. Microsoft's focus on enterprise market is also causing failure in mass/consumer market where Symbian leads. If Windows Mobile phones are worse than RIM BlackBerry for enterprises and Symbian phones are better for consumers, then what group of users remains for Windows Mobile phones? Micosoft may have nice PowerPoint presentations to show at their invite-only conferences but reality is different and Windows Mobile fails. Telecomms industry analyst Om Malik writes: The other solutions - Microsoft ActiveSync only work if you have Exchange, and don’t work too well. The connection stops, the syncing stops and what not. Same is the case with other email clients like Seven. Most don’t play nice with Mac. RoadSync is the only good activesync solution. I frankly could not get Blackberry connect to work on my device, so I just gave up. To read more click here.
