Latest ActiveSync for Vista released October 07, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. ... or rather "Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center" as Microsoft calls this component. Of course nobody is using Windows Vista in production environments yet, but since many developers and fans already run Windows Vista Beta version, this story may be of interest to some people! Interestingly only Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5 are supported, older versions not any longer: The Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 enables you to set up new partnerships, synchronize content and manage music, pictures and video with any Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5.0 powered device. Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 is only supported on builds of Windows Vista RC1 or later. One should remember that it all still is in beta version: Pre-release software should not be used in a production environment or on a primary computer in the home. This pre-release version is intended for developers, IT professionals, and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Beta and Windows Mobile-powered devices. Before you decide to use this pre-release version, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using pre-release software include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this pre-release software on your PC, we encourage you to continue to use Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2 with the Windows XP operating system. Related links:
