Palm Treo 750v smartphone on sale in UK also as pre-paid kit - but not everywhere ! October 07, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Vodafone UK is using imagery of Treo 750v in several places in their (brick and mortar) retail shops - including posters and leaflets and also in various promotions. Vodafone seems to be almost proud that it sells Treo 750v on exclusive basis and "exclusive offer" phrase is being repeated by Vodafone very often in combination with this new Treo:
Unfortunately some major Vodafone shops in UK still are not offering Treo 750v as pre-paid kit, let alone without SIM and without SIM lock. Many Vodafone shops in UK clearly refuse selling 750v other than on contract, but fortunately some of Vodafone shops, for example this one:
... which is Vodafone store at Liverpool train station in London, indeed offer Treo 750v as pre-paid kit - for 380 British pounds! When asked why Treo 750v is not offered as pre-paid kit in some (most) Vodafone shops in UK the answer is that this phone is very new and that Vodafone wants to attract maximum number of contract (and not just pre-paid) customers. Selling Windows Mobile phones without having a deal with mobile operators is a very risky business and it is good to see that the biggest mobile operator in the world (not counting Chinese ones) - Vodafone - has picked the very first Windows Mobile Treo smartphone for GSM/UMTS. It is also a major victory for Windows Mobile platform. However this deal is reciprocal and now Vodafone can bask in glory of having EXCLUSIVELY the first Windows Mobile Treo for GSM/UMTS! Realistically speaking however Treo 750v is too overpriced to make any major impact in Symbian-dominated Europe, where similar phones from competition (like Nokia E61) are being offered 30-40 % cheaper and offer more features (built-in Wi-Fi that is missing in Treo 750v).
