Spectec launches microSD Wi-Fi card with 802.11g support - SDW823 ! October 18, 2006 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)] | By Edward J. R. The reality is that most newly released Windows Mobile phones don't have SD card slot, don't have miniSD card slot but are equipped only with microSD card slot! For these phones, if they don't have Wi-Fi built-in, it was impossible to use Wi-Fi cards because such cards are available only in full size SD and miniSD formats. Now it all changes:
Special Features:
Data Rates: 802.11g: 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54 Mbps 802.11b: 1, 2, 5.5, 11 Mbps To learn more click here. Commentary: the last barrier in availabilty of Wi-Fi has been broken thanks to this microSD Wi-Fi card and while it is true that for many people replacing memory card with Wi-Fi card makes no sense because their most files anyway reside on the memory card, in many cases, like making Skype phone calls, causal Internet browsing or fast downloading of some one particular podcast - usage of Wi-Fi cards makes sense indeed! It is also worth mentioning that if you have buil-it 802.11b Wi-Fi only, then this card is also worth considering as it brings 802.11g compatibility, that is crucial to prevent slowing down of the whole mixed-mode Wi-Fi access point!
