Another review of Vodafone Palm Treo 750v with verdict NO WI-FI SO DONT BUY !
October 21, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

Due to dominating market position in USA (and USA only) Palm Inc has become extremely arrogant and dared to release in Europe the latest Treo (fortunately powered by Windows Mobile) without built-in Wi-Fi.

Since in Europe in most countries and in case of the most most mobile operators, including the operator that released the Treo - Vodafone - no genuine unlimited flat rate mobile Internet tariffs are available, users really need Wi-Fi. Clearly Palm Inc has lied about designing Treo 750v especially for Europe, particularly because it has just released Treo 680 (powered by Palm OS) that also has no protruding antenna but is for USA, and because the most important requirement for Europeans - built-in Wi-Fi - was ignored by Palm Inc.

Interestingly main competitor of Treo 750v - the Nokia E61 smartphone - has built-in Wi-Fi (including 802.11g) but is available for 50% less. In other words: Palm is positioning Treo 750v as business phone but due to missing Wi-Fi such positioning is a misrepresentation.

We have been reviewing Treo 750v long time ago as you can see here but we are not arrogant and we believe that opinions of other people are important so here comes yet another review of this phone:

So much about the hardware but the Palm Treo 750v isn't alone, it has some strong competitors namely the HTC Hermes and the HTC Excalibur. While the Hermes basically features the same specs, it adds W-LAN a 2 megapixel camera and a front facing video camera. On the other hand, the Excalibur is a Windows Mobile Smartphone without UMTS but it's featuring W-LAN

[...]

So what can I say, would I buy the Treo 750v today (since I have to send it back to Vodafone Germany next week which thankfully loaned me the device for the review, I have to buy it myself if I would like to continue to use it)? No, I wouldn't but only because of the missing W-LAN support. This would be the only reason which keeps me away from the 750v since I expect W-LAN support for today's Pocket PC Phone Edition devices. If you say you don't need W-LAN at all because you have a flat UMTS fee or because you don't access your local W-LANs at all, the Palm Treo 750v might be the right choice.
