Asus attack continues: FCC leaks O2 Xda Zinc Pocket PC phone and O2 Xda Graphite MS Smartphone - both made by Asus

Asus (known also as ASUSTek) is a Taiwanese corporation that earned first money by selling mother boards for PCs and other computer components. Then they realized that they can earn more money if they sell under their own brand and now they also sell cheap but powerful notebooks under their own brand "in the West". The fact that among their notebooks there is even one Tablet PC computer proves that Asus is not just another re-brander (as HP recently became) but a genuine big manufacturer...
So the story is simple:
unlike HTC for which manufacturing of mobile phones is huge majority of business, Asus can afford to be more laid back regarding mobile phone industry - because most of their money comes from sales of computer parts and Asus branded computers! Moreover unlike Quanta that is not existing "in the West" as a brand, Asus brand is already becoming well known and synonym for many features for low price.
The recent news from Asus is that they will be manufacturing 2 new Windows Mobile phone devices - information about it leaked from American FCC:
- O2 Xda Zinc Pocket PC phone : European GSM-triband, European UMTS, Intel 520 MHz processor, 2 megapixel camera, fast Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G video calling, learn more from FCC here.
- O2 Xda Graphite MS Smartphone : Intel 312 MHz processor, 3G video calling, learn more from FCC here.
Conclusion: unlike Quanta, Asus can really endanger leading position of HTC. It remains to be seen yet however whether Asus can keep up with HTC when it comes to quality of phone calls and reception features. One is for sure: now Asus notebooks (and one Tablet PC!) are becoming more and more popular and the same customers, who are satisfied with Asus notebooks will be perfectly comfortable with Asus Windows Mobile powered phones! HTC can't provide such comfort because it doesn't make notebooks. Asus making Windows Mobile phones is a great news for Windows Mobile platform, because similarly like it is with Palm, it brings something more than just technological expertise: it brings brand recognition...
