From Hungary with love: Motorola Q Pro aka Motorola Q Norman sighted
November 09, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.
Sighted at Hungarian website, the Motorola Q Pro (of code name Motorola Q Norman), looks like the the phone that Motorola will release in Europe for UMTS/GSM networks - a successor to American Motorola Q that works only on CDMA networks...
... however this phone is doomed to fail probably ...
Some highlights about this phone:
- no wheel!!! unlike American Motorola Q this phone has no wheel!
- 2 megapixel camera
- still powered by Windows Mobile Smartphone Edition, i.e. without touch screen
- Vodafone branding on the back is visible what indicates that this phone will come to Europe at first to Vodafone - as it was with Treo 750v
- "8x digital zoom" text on the back of the phone indicates that Motorola is more into pretending than into providing real features, because any imaging software can provide unlimited digital zoom: digital zoom doesn't count anymore, only optical zoom counts. On this basis one can deduce that this phone will not have Wi-Fi.
- proprietary USB connector! (unlike HTC Excalibur that uses industry standard mini-USB connector)
Commentary: Motorola Q Pro is MS Smartphone, not Pocket PC phone, so it will have to compete with Samsung i600 (that has HSDPA, genuine wheel, Wi-Fi 802.11b/802.11g, Bluetooth, etc) and with HTC Excalibur (that has Wi-Fi 802.11b/802.11g and is 200 Euro cheaper than Samsung i600). However in the view of removing the wheel and in the view of availability of a very good and very cheap HTC Excalibur, this new phone from Motorola Q will have practically no chances... particularly because also Nokia has very strong competitor in this category (touch screen -less smartphones) - Nokia E61 - that is very cheap. Motorola releases too little too late.
