Changes at i-mate - one of the biggest distributors of Windows Mobile phones November 17, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. No longer i-mate can just stick its own label on HTC manufactured phones... because HTC has dumped i-mate and now i-mate has to source their phones from other manufacturers. Obviously sourcing phones from other companies than HTC, is not the only change at i-mate!
Another major change is redesign of i-mate website, that you can find here: www.imate.com. As you can see above some preview of upcoming, yet not published phones is visible - the i-mate PDA-L Pocket PC phone (to the left) and i-mate JAQ3 (to the right). Unfortunately the changes at i-mate's website are superficial and still product pages of individual phones consist of one big image with specifications but no textual description - very amateurish. Another issue is that i-mate still has problems with credibility because it claims that clearly are not true. For starters i-mate says, that it is "an international developer of high-end wireless devices" although in reality it is just a distributor of already designed devices. Then i-mate says, that some devices were designed purposefully so and so, although given device was developed and designed by third company before even i-mate started to be interested in branding of this device. Furthermore i-mate claims to have exclusivity on several models what is yet another untrue claim: the upcoming i-mate JAQ3 Pocket PC phone for example is already on sale as UBiQUiO 501 and also some other models are sold by other distributors, so this exclusivity claim is also untrue. After moving away from HTC, i-mate has taken second step: redesign of their website. What's next?
