New ROM upgrade with AKU 3.3 released for UBiQUiO 501 - the thinnest Pocket PC phone in the world November 28, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. We have been reviewing this phone previously (see here) and we had some doubts regarding this phone due to the lack of latest AKU... but now new ROM version is available and it brings AKU 3.3 (that includes among others Wi-Fi WPA2, Bluetooth PAN Internet sharing, etc)! Here is how the "About dialog" looks like after the upgrade (the build number is the release number followed by the AKU version):

ROM release for the UBiQUiO 501, version 3.00.00. Since the release of the UBiQUiO 501 we have been gathering feedback from customers, both via the support forums and via direct communication. We are pleased to announce a new ROM release for the UBiQUiO 501, version 3.00.00. To learn more or to download this ROM upgrade click here. We have tested this ROM upgrade ourselves and it is working extremely well! Instead of using setup program for Windows XP (as is the case with HTC manufactured phones) here it was enough to copy 2 files from RAR-compressed archive to mini-SD card (formatting of the mini-SD card was NOT necessary!) and then removal and insertion of battery combined with certain key combination resulted in super-fast ROM upgrade. The AKU 3.3 brings many improvements and is worth having. The UBiQUiO 501 will be also sold by i-mate as i-mate JAQ3 and additionally with a wheel (instead of volume up and down keys) but one can clearly see that UBiQUiO can be trusted too - they care for customers and they have proven it by the most important way possible: timely release of ROM upgrade with latest features!
