Windows Mobile powered Treo 750 smartphone delayed in USA ?
November 29, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

Treo 750 was expected on Cingular in USA before Christmas 2006 - yet this year - but it looks like it will be released next (!) calendar year, i.e. in 2007:

Palm writes:

"Smartphone sell-through across our existing products is strong, reflecting solid business fundamentals in the face of significant competitive pressure," said Ed Colligan, Palm president and chief executive officer. "However, our Q2 FY07 revenue will be constrained by a delay in certification of a key product. We now expect to start shipping the Treo 750 for the U.S. market early in Q3 FY07. Our Treo 750v launch in Europe is doing quite well, and we expect international revenue for Q2 FY07 to be strong."

Commentary: this news story from Palm Inc. is a big dissapointment for many people in USA. Treo 750 may have no Wi-Fi but it has 3G, including both UMTS (officially known) and HSDPA (still unofficial, only hacked support available). For many Palm OS users who have Treo smartphones the arrival of Treo 750 to USA was supposed to be big miliestone that would sway them to jump to Windows Mobile platform - because for many of them CDMA EVDO based Treos are not appealing enough and Treo 750 is the first Windows Mobile Treo that supports GSM/UMTS/HSDPA - i.e. such American wireless carriers as Cingular and T-Mobile USA.

It is unclear why Palm Inc. mentions delay in certification if it is well known fact that Treo 750 has been certified (type approved) by FCC as you can see here. Probably Palm means problems with certification by Cingular, that would certainly not fall for a cheap trick of selling Treo 750 as UMTS-only, HSDPA-less, phone as Vodafone did! (BTW: it is outrageous that official HSDPA upgrade for Vodafone Treo 750v still is not available and Palm blames Vodafone's slow roll-out of HSDPA - considering that Vodafone has launched HSDPA commercially in March 2006)

It is also unclear what Palm means by "Q3 FY07", which literally means third quarter, Fiscal (!) Year 2007. It may be that December 2006, Calendar (!) Year 2006 is included in "Q3 FY07" and thus Treo 750 will manage to arrive before Christmas 2006... but it looks like chances for it to happen are decreasing.
