Review of recently released Spb Mobile DVD published December 04, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Mobile DVD has been just released, and already first review is published: Our Windows Mobile devices are great for taking movies on the go. Converting movies and DVD to a more pocketable format can be a bit of chore if you don't have the right program. Spb Software has a brand-new solution Spb Mobile DVD operates smoothly without any problems that I could uncover. There are a couple of features I would like to see in a future release. Currently Mobile DVD can only work with single files/disks. If you want to convert a movie that spans to a two disk set, then you'll need to convert each disk and the result will be two separate files. Mobile DVD could really benefit from the ability to join files together. The only other feature I would like to see, is the ability to adjust the audio quality To read the review, including several screen shots, click here. Spb Software company writes: Spb Software House, the leading Pocket PC software developer, releases Spb Mobile DVD — a desktop application that provides a simple way to convert DVDs and video files to mobile format with the fastest possible speed and a true real-time preview. According to a recent Spb Pocket PC Survey, approximately 50% of Pocket PC owners watch movies on their Pocket PCs. They watch videos while traveling or during just about any idle time. One can share home videos, show cartoons to children, and more. Unfortunately, it is impossible to directly copy a video file from a PC or laptop, due to filesize and bit rate limitations. Video files must be converted and compressed to a smaller size, but the smaller the file size, the poorer the video quality. It's up to user to find a compromise between the file size and video quality. No computer can ever make this decision. If the size/quality settings were wrong, it may happen that the conversion video quality is unacceptable and the whole conversion procedure must be repeated. This "what-if method" can be very annoying. To avoid such problems Spb Mobile DVD offers a unique true real-time preview feature, which allows to see the result even before the conversion starts. Spb Mobile DVD is optimized for the fastest conversion speeds on one core, hyperthreading and dual core processors. On a new PC it is possible to convert a 2 hour long DVD film in about 20 minutes! Factors which affect conversion include the CPU, DVD player, output video settings, video quality and zooming mode. More information from the software vendor can be found here.
