In other words: any GSM compatible phone manufactured by HTC and sold in USA through wireless carriers (operators) or distributors must go through Brighpoint! We don't think it is wise move on part of HTC, particularly because in other areas (for example: Europe) HTC assigned more than one distributor... Information from Brightpoint Inc. follows. * * * * * Brightpoint North America to be Sole Distributor of HTC GSM Devices to Regional Operators and their Distribution Channels Brightpoint, Inc., announced that its subsidiary Brightpoint North America L.P. (Brightpoint) has signed an agreement with High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) to distribute HTC GSM devices. The agreement permits Brightpoint to serve as the sole authorized distributor for HTC's Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R)-based GSM devices and related accessories to regional carriers, mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) and their respective independent dealers, value-added resellers (VARs), and retailers in the United States and Canada. Mitch Black, senior vice president of sales & distribution for Brightpoint, stated: "Brightpoint is excited to expand its relationship with HTC and add HTC's innovative Windows Mobile-based GSM wireless devices to our channels in North America. HTC has a long tradition of designing and building durable, reliable, and versatile devices, and Brightpoint's affiliates have distributed HTC devices in various European markets for several years. This growing relationship with HTC is a significant key to our overall Smartphone strategy."
