All your BLACK are belong to us - says RIM and sues Samsung December 10, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. What is wrong with RIM? Until recently many people in mobile industry were sympathizing with them because they were being sued and attacked through frivolous lawsuits by certain evil company that also was trying to sue Microsoft and others... but now it looks like it is RIM that is evil! Apparently the "black" in "BlackJack" name of the smartphone is much too similar to the "black" in "BlackBerry"!
Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerry filed a lawsuit against the Korean cell phone maker in Los Angeles Federal Court, accusing Samsung of infringing RIM’s trademark by naming its recent product BlackJack. According to RIM, the lawsuit is aimed at banning Samsung from using the Name BlackJack. To learn more click here (the original source of this story). Commentary: Samsung BlackJack is a stunning smartphone because not only it is powered by Windows Mobile smartphone edition but also because it features genuine wheel (just like in BlackBerry devices!), QWERTY keyboard and supports HSDPA (fast UMTS) that is available since recently on Cingular in USA where it is sold. USA is the most important market for RIM BlackBerry devices so RIM is trying to do everything to stop Microsoft - even attacking Microsoft partners! Please note that Microsoft has announced previously that if any company will try to sue a hardware manufacturer due to Microsoft's push technology, then Microsoft offers legal protection for such manufacturer. In this case however RIM has problems with "black" in the name of this excellent Samsung smartphone what clearly indicates that it is frivolous lawsuit and RIM is one of those evil companies that hinder technological progress by lawsuits... Our conclusion is simple: don't buy RIM BlackBerry devices at all! Nowadays smartphones from Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Symbian camps offer so much more functionalities and make it possible to run native (!) third part applications, so what's the point in buying BlackBerry device if it is essentially just a regular mobile phone with a keyboard that cannot run native (!) 3rd party applications but only (very limited in functionality) Java midlets!? Just do not buy BlackBerry yourself ... and pass it on!
