Amateurish ONLINE advertisement campaign of HTC has started today December 11, 2006 [General] | By Edward J. R. Exactly as we predicted it, first HTC banners are appearing since today on the Internet. HTC bannners look like this:
HTC Europe has hired Andy McLaughlin as the Online Marketing Manager for HTC's European headquarters in Slough (a small city near London). Then this guy was approaching amateurishly various websites with possible banner advertisements. Why amateurishly? Because without asking for web stats that would show size of web traffic of given website, without using professional web traffic services like Hitwise, without any estimation of traffic of various websites, this guy was proposing incredibly small amounts of money for placing banners on these websites! Unfortunately some web masters like to show off nice banners - to boost their ego, even if they received pathetically small money for placement of these banners, so at the end Andy McLaughlin has managed to place some banners. While we applaud that HTC starts online advertising, we must admit that such amateurish approach as this one presented by Andy McLaughlin we have never encountered before. We only hope that people who are designing HTC phones are not as amateurish as HTC's Online Marketing Manager... Anyway since HTC is manufacturing over 80% of all Windows Mobile phones, including those HTC branded, those branded by mobile operators and those ordered by Palm and HP, we couldn't omit this story because it affects also other manufacturers of Windows Mobile phones. HTC already has been publishing big full-page advertisemens in popular British press related to mobile phones, so online advertising is just another step of HTC's marketing efforts.
