Another review of BLACKBerry-killer - Samsung BLACKJack SGH-i607 - published
December 11, 2006 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

Sometimes some phones powered by Windows Mobile smartphone edition (and thus not equipped with touch screen) have some unique features not available in Symbian phones or are simply so brilliant:

... that even people who are used to smartphones with touch screen (i.e. Pocket PC phones or Palm OS based Treo-s) are switching to the touch screen -less platform:

I am more of a "Pocket PC Phone" guy than a "Smartphone" guy. Not this time, I am officially designating myself as a "Smartphone" guy. I guess I have adjusted to not having a touch screen. While reviewing the Blackjack, something happened that I normally do not let happen during a review. I fell in love.

Furthermore, apart from the HSDPA (super fast 3G) support, Samsung BlackJack has a genuine wheel - just like in Motorola Q and in BlackBerry devices:

Next up is the scroll wheel that has more uses that duct tape. The scroll wheel functions as just that, a scroll wheel. If you push the wheel in, it makes a selection. If you hold it down, it brings up a nifty quick launcher that will launch apps, URLs, etc. Under the scroll wheel is the back button. I think we could do without it, but I can see it as useful for those that read a lot of webpages and ebooks using scroll wheel to navigate.

Commentary: while we know that many people in USA are used to having a touch screen in a smartphone - mainly due to the fact that Treo smartphones with touch screen have been so wildly popular in USA over many years - we wholeheartedly agree with author of above review and we would like to ask everybody who says "touch screen is a must have feature for me" to reconsider! Phones powered by Windows Mobile smartphone edition are usually smaller than Pocket PC phone edition phones and having a wheel usually more than makes up for the lack of touch screen...
