HSDPA for Cingular Treo 750 possible January 13, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. It is very suspicious why Palm has released (this month) Treo 750 also in USA without HSDPA support. Previously Palm has released Treo 750, as Treo 750v, for Vodafone in Europe - also without HSDPA support, although Vodafone offers HSDPA in their network already for a long time... HSDPA is a fast version of UMTS and boosts speed from 384 kbps to 1.8 Mbps (in current version, soon: 3.6 Mbps and more). The only explanation why Palm is not offering HSDPA officially is that there are some hidden technical difficulties and that's why it is possible to switch HSDPA on only through unofficial means: All you need to do is download this zip file and expand it. Once it is expanded connect your Treo 750 to your PC and copy the HSDPA.exe file to your Windows/ directory and copy the HSDPA.lnk file to your start-up folder. Thats it.. Be warned ... Reboot two times Credit: Mobility Today. Conclusion: in a very competitive market, with several HTC and Samsung phones with official HSDPA support, with Apple iPhone on horizon, it is unclear why Palm still offers no official support for HSDPA. Shortly speaking: if you need reliable HSDPA support, don't buy Treo 750!
