Apple sends lawyers against Windows Mobile fans in defence of iPhone - Apple censorship strikes again ! January 13, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Some fans of Windows Mobile have produced themes that change how Windows Mobile UI (user interface) looks like and make it look like Apple iPhone! Apparently Apple doesn't like the fact that not only many Windows Mobile phones are superior to Apple iPhone but also that with simple theme each Windows Mobile phone can look exactly like iPhone - without the need to purchase Apple iPhone itself! Interestingly Apple's lawyers are persecuting not only the people who host above mentioned iPhone theme, but also others who only link to it: yesterday, in this topic, I posted a link to a post on XDA-Developers, where an enterprising member had created a Pocket PC today screen to mimic the Apple iPhone. It's worth pointing out I just posted a link and a screenshot... NOT the actual files required to DO the installation. Well, this morning in my mailbox I find a letter from Apple's legal team (O’Melveny & Myers LLP, San Francisco) entitled 'Unauthorized Dissemination of Apple Computer Copyrighted Material by MoDaCo' demanding I remove the said link and the screenshot. To learn more click here. See also content of the letter from Apple lawyers here. * * * * * Conclusion: clearly Apple has some point because above mentioned theme copied one to one icons from the Apple iPhone, but it will be impossible to force all web sites with themes for Windows Mobile (Pocket PC and Smartphone) to remove all themes that look similarly to the user interface of Apple. On the other hand we encourage hereby all makers of themes for Windows Mobile to make themes that don't copy one to one icons from Apple but to make original icons. In this way no Apple lawyer will be able to sue anybody... and still the user interface of Windows Mobile phones can look very similar to Apple iPhone!
